Who are the applicants of marriage registration?

(1)    Referring to Article 982 of the Civil Code, marriage should be made effective in writing with the signature of at least two witnesses. Both parties (bride and groom) of a marriage should register their marriage to the household registration office. Also, referring to Article 35 of the Household Registration Act, both parties (bride and groom) of a marriage should be applicants of marriage registration. However, a party of those who got married or whose marriage was made effective before May 22, 2008 can be the applicant.
 
(2)    From May 23, 2008 onward, those who get married in Taiwan should apply for marriage registration by both parties (bride and groom) of the marriage. However, a party of those who got married or whose marriage were made effective before May 22, 2008 (including the same day) can be the applicant.
